Phonics is a method of teaching children to read by linking sounds (phonemes) and the symbols that represent them (graphemes). Phonics is the learning-to-read method used in primary schools in the UK today. At The Bramptons the children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 all receive 15/20 minutes phonics teaching every day.

The children progress through the phonics phases (1 - 6) learning about letter sounds, segmenting sounds, Consonant - Vowel (CV) words, Consonant - Vowel - Consonant (CVC) words, tricky words, spelling patterns, blending and encoding.

For more information about how we teach Phonics at The Bramptons please see the presentation given to KS1 parents at a recent Information Evening.
